Day 53 . 14 .06.2011

I went to campus today to submit the specialisation form. I have decided to specialize in Copywriting. I have a good feeling about my decision.  Originally my plan was to do Visual Communications (art direction and graphic design) because I am visually strong and it would come naturally for me. However, I need a challenge and that is what Copywriting has been in these past 6 months.
I am writing my first exam tomorrow morning and then again on the 21st, then I too will be able to indulge in the holiday period. I have decided after my exam, I will start my birthday celebrations. I am not sure what I am doing yet, so I will be spontaneous this year.
All the best to my fellow Vegan’s for their exam tomorrow and the rest to come.

Day 13 . 05 .05.2011

Early Post…

My first lecture of the day starts at 11:30. So as planned, I would wake up slightly later than usual, and do all the ‘morning’ things I don’t get to do, like eating breakfast and walking around the house in my gown. It feels as if there is never time to do those kinds of things, and so when an opportunity presents itself, I am going in HARD. The weather is slightly off putting, but reality is that its autumn/winter and that summer and the sun will soon become foreign to us all in Cape Town.

Woke up to a link sent by my lovely friend Asanda Sizani (Fashion Editor of Elle – this name dropping thing is weird but it must be done). If there is anyone in this world who knows something about timing, it’s her. I won’t go on about her, as I am guaranteed to get a message from her saying how embarrassed she is. “Invent your world. Surround yourself with people, colour, sounds and work that nourish you”. Just that on its own substantiates my statement in referring to her as a woman of timing.

I need to speak to my Creative Development lecturer about my idea’s for my exhibition today. I tried to look for her in that small campus of mine, but when it comes to looking for someone at Vega; it feels as if our campus is as big as UCT. Everyone is always on the move.  My Creative Development navigator (as they prefer to be referred to as instead of lecturer) is Carol-Anne Gainer. Now this woman is insightful. Not only does she work at Vega, but she is also an artist. We have many navigator’s working permanently and doing what they love freelancing , like Jana du Plessis ( copywriting navigator) with the launch of her book titled ‘Vat ‘n Gap’.  It’s great and makes everything they say entirely more subjective, which is always better.

Check this out for a whole lot of inspiration and words of encouragement. I feel different and much better, about the exhibition and in general, from yesterday because of this à

Day 7 . 29.04.2011

Sup

I underestimated the strength blogger’s have, as blogging everyday can be a great deal of work.  I also took for granted the public promise I made, which was to post something, important or insignificant, everyday as it is part of the process leading to the final. I am saying the previous sentence out loud and it just sounds corny (I humour myself when I attempt to sound profound) and I somehow want to take it all back, but I wont.

My vacation is coming to an end, and I am not hitting the streets tonight. It’s so typical of me to choose the sheets instead of hitting the club. Spent the day with my long time friend Mpilo Ngcukana (Founder and Designer of Simon Deporres along with Simon Pocock), and Sister Latoya Marivate (Aspiring Chef) today, which was great, as I love catching up with people I adore.

I think that I am particularly lazy at this point in time, but I know that will all change when I go back to school. Vega reminds me what good work ethic is and what it means to work your way to the top. Home reminds me of food, warmth and television, and so that’s all that I am used too at this point in time. I have home to blame for my weight gain, oh and winter. I look ‘porky’ and find it rather funny, as I still manage to fit into all my clothes. This little pj (personal joke for you, mom and dad) will end when my jeans are ripping because of the large thighs.

Okay, from photography, to being lazy and all the way to body talk. Ha-ha, I think its getting late.

Day 4. 26.04.2011

Admin day

So....I have neglected my onesmallseed network profile in general, which is not a good look.
About three weeks ago, if not a month ago, I uploaded some images that I took for an assignment on campus.  If I haven't mentioned it yet, or you don't know, I go to Vega branding school (in Cape Town). I am doing a BA in Creative Brand Communications (art direction, graphic design, copy writing and multimedia). I don't know what it is that I will be specializing in as of yet, but no pressure.

Back to the onesmallseed topic. One of the few images that I uploaded was featured a while ago, but as usual, I only saw this week later, and to be more specific, I saw it this morning. This would be my third feature. My subjects name is Candice Theron. She is a mate of mine; we attend the same school, course and year.
She evokes an edgy and hardcore image, and I love how that is so naturally conveyed. HOWEVER...this is not one of my successful pictures. I guess my eye is different to the next person's. So thanks again Onesmallseed network.  Oh and before I forget, happy birthday S'vuyile Mayosi.
