Day 102 . 02 .08.2011

This week I am printing my pieces. However before I do so , I need to go show Deryck my pieces and get some advice on which images should be A0 , A1 and A2. I have made my decision on which images should be printed and the sizes that it would need to be , but I feel better getting a second opinion.

Today I am having three meetings that are exhibition related. I figured I should do as much as I can this week , so that I have less to worry about later and that I can give my full attention to my sisters 21st birthday.

WOW WOW WOW!!!

I had the best birthday ever. I mean it. I usually have a lot to do with the organizing of my day, but this year I hardly did anything. My sister Latoya (the eldest) gathered my family and close friends to Groot Constantia, where we went wine tasting. We tasted different types of red and white wine, but I think the Port was our ultimate favourite.

Naledi (the second eldest) spontaneously took us to Kalk Bay, to one of her favourite restaurants Polana. It has this amazing view of the ocean and intimate mood, which was so fitting for the group of women I was with...

We went back home and my personal Master Chef Latoya made the most AMAZING Soufflé. I was so happy and relaxed at home, drinking the most amazing wine and eating non stop.

A day before my birthday, I sent out messages to all my close friends, inviting them to come to the Waiting Room and jam it up with me on my special day. To be honest, I didn’t expect such a great turn-out . I was proven wrong , as it seemed as if I knew everyone in the club. I am so blessed and fortunate to have the people I have in my life. Thank you to all those, that thought of me and wished me a fab day via twitter, texting, facebook and calling. I really love you all.

Unexpected Wednesdays

Today was one of those unplanned days. My family and I woke up early in the morning, went to go vote, and after treated ourselves to a lovely breakfast at Tasha’s in Constantia Village. We split up and went our separate ways to do the things we had planned to do individually and then met up to attend an exhibition, by someone who is very close to the family, Zwelethu Mthethwa.

Just a few hours ago, we attended the opening of the exhibition “New Works’, which was held at iART Gallery, 71 Loop Street, and will be running until the 29 June 2011. The collection of work displayed was divided into two categories, ‘The end of an era’ and ‘the brave ones’. Both extremely strong concepts and each image beautifully captured his vision accurately.

Thembinkosi Goniwe clearly states that in this series of works, “The former engages with young Shembe devotees participating in the annual church ceremony of a group found predominantly in KwaZulu-Natal, while the latter reflects on the living conditions of migrant workers laboring in the mines and industrial firms of urban areas of Johannesburg and Durban” in the short notes in Zwelethu Mthethwa’s photography of interiors and exteriors.

Day 19 . 11.05.2011

What I did today...

All lectures were attended and more. I set up a meeting with the gallery manager for the 12th May. I bumped into Uncle Zwelethu Mthethwa (South African artist and photographer and his work can be seen on post 9) who has invited my family to his exhibition next Wednesday, at the gallery called Iart in Cape Town. An investment was made on red leather shorts. I went out for a little snack with my sister Naledi Radebe at Lazaris. Now I am on the grind to complete as much work as possible for tomorrow. There is major work to be done tomorrow.
